Lost Love

I came across this in my reading today and thought I would share some thoughts over the next few days about 'lost love.'  Most of us have memories of a lost love.

"If there is not private communion between you and Jesus - frequent and deep communion - then your religion is worthless.  You've lost your first love"  (Kris Lundgaard).

"You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen!  Repent and do the things you did at first.  If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from it's place."  Jesus - Revelation 2:4-5

Jesus continues with this wonderful promise, if you repent and renew your first love: "I will give (you) the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God." (verse 7)  Is there anything left in you that hungers and thirsts for the promised eternal fruit?

Jesus is the Pearl of Great Price, for which we should sell everything to obtain.  Jesus is our Defender and Advocate who kneels before the Father on our behalf.  Jesus is the friend of sinners, the Lover of your soul.  Jesus is the Radiance of God's glory.  He not only deserves our love but He wants our love.

Your sinful nature is at war against your love for Jesus.  It will try to deceive you, distract you, demoralize you, and drown you.  Don't wait until you are treading water and your love for Jesus is lost.

"For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live...(Romans 8:13).  You are in a war with your sin nature.  Who do you love most, Jesus or you?

Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart and ask yourself the following questions to help you determine whether you have forsaken your first love for Jesus.  I'll be posting aditional questions in the days to come.

  •    Is your zeal for God as warm, living, vigorous, effective, and eager as it was when you first gave yourself to Christ?

Blessings in your journey,
