Car Wash

The Junior (13 & 14 year old) Little League Soldotna baseball team had a great idea for a fundraiser.  Have a carwash.  Yes, not very original, but usually effective.  They added a wrinkle, though – pre-sell tickets to the carwash.  I believe that most of the tickets were sold beforehand and that the team reached their fundraising dollar figure before the car wash started.  The only thing left to do would be to wash the cars, both for the tickets sold and any other traffic that might be passing by (extra money!).  The plan was foolproof, right?  What could go wrong?

Well, just the weather.  And no plans for an alternative date in case of rain…

I just returned from a hot chocolate run for the team – a dozen boys stuck in the rain for 6 hours sans cars to wash.  Everyone was soaked already, but in good spirits.  However, there are still 5 more hours to go…

I am pleased to see these boys/men being faithful to keep their word.  However, I am reminded of another truth from the Word – one that planners like me need to constantly hear…

James 4:13-15  Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
